BS EN ISO 3834 – Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials, is published in 3 parts; Part 2 – comprehensive quality requirements, Part 3 – standard quality requirements, and Part 4 – elementary quality requirements. Parts 2 and 3 require the application of BS EN ISO 14731 – Welding co-ordination – Tasks and responsibilities, which provides guidance and recommendations for technical knowledge in welding. The qualification status of European / International Welding Engineer or Technologist are fully recognised as satisfying the requirements of both parts 2 and 3 of this standard for the tasks and responsibilities of a Responsible Welding Co-ordinator (RWC). However, in today’s economic climate, many companies may be required to work to, or work towards, the principles of BS EN ISO 3834 with their current experienced workforce but cannot justify the appointment of a full-time RWC. Cambrian Fusion Technology Ltd can offer the service of a Certified European/International Welding Engineer to perform the duties of a RWC on a part-time basis.
